First published in 1963, The Spy Who Came In From The Cold changed the tone of modern espionage fiction, replacing glamour with realism and moral doubt. The novel became a global bestseller and remains one of John le Carré’s most influential works. This production marks the first time the book has been adapted for the stage, bringing its stark view of intelligence work into a live setting.
The adaptation is written by David Eldridge, whose script focuses on character and consequence, and directed by Jeremy Herrin with Joe Lichtenstein as Tour Director. The production first premiered at Chichester Festival Theatre to strong critical response before a West End run. Its move to a UK tour allows the story to reach new audiences across the country.
Ralf Little takes on the role of Alec Leamas, a man caught between duty and conscience.
