Adapted by Owen O’Neill and Dave Johns from Stephen King’s 1982 novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, the play distils the essence of Frank Darabont’s much loved film while staying closer to the original text. It first appeared on stage in the late 2000s and has since toured widely, recognised for its emotional depth and clarity of storytelling.
