Savage will make its world premiere at Curve Leicester in February 2027 before touring and transferring to London's West End.
Written by Jonathan Harvey with O'Grady's blessing before his passing, the production will explore how a working-class boy from Birkenhead became Lily Savage, the sharp-tongued character who would go on to become one of Britain's most beloved entertainers.
Speaking before his passing, O'Grady said he was "delighted" Harvey would write the play, calling him "perfect for this". Harvey described the production as "a fitting testament" to O'Grady's life and legacy, adding that audiences can expect "a cracking night out full of humour and heart".
