Macbeth is one of Shakespeare’s most studied and frequently performed tragedies, exploring themes of ambition, power, fate, and moral collapse. Dickens Theatre Company’s adaptation strips the play back to its core, using a small ensemble to tell the story with clarity and energy. The Porter, often a brief comic role, becomes a central guide, helping audiences follow the descent into chaos.
The production forms part of the company’s Revision on Tour programme, which aims to combine strong storytelling with educational value. Alongside titles such as Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde and A Christmas Carol, this Macbeth is designed to be engaging for students while remaining satisfying for general audiences. The language is respected, with performance choices that support understanding.
