First published in 1936, James M. Cain’s novel Double Indemnity became one of the great crime stories of the 20th century. It tells of an insurance salesman drawn into a plot with Phyllis Nirdlinger, a woman who wants her husband dead for the insurance payout. What begins as a clean scheme soon unravels, driven by guilt, mistrust, and fear. The story was later adapted into the 1944 film directed by Billy Wilder, which helped define the film noir style.
This UK tour presents a new stage version with Mischa Barton starring as Phyllis.
